Type of data breach: 17 million people from Ecuador are affected
Personal data of almost the entire population of Ecuador published online on Elasticsearch servers. Elasticsearch is an open source search engine and analyzes data of all kinds - textual data, numerical data, geospatial data, or even structured and unstructured data. Personal data of data subjects from Ecuador were published on the servers, including probably 6.7 records relating to children. Also included was information on Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who lived in the Ecuadorian embassy for seven years. The database is currently no longer unsecured on the internet. It is unclear whether third parties have already accessed the data. The following categories of data were affected: Names, date of birth, place of birth, home address, marital status, national identity card number, employer information, telephone numbers and educational qualifications.
