Type of data breach: Personal data of 134 police officers were transmitted unencrypted

The Thuringian police are currently investigating a data protection breach at the Unstrut-Hainich police station (PI). According to media reports, a protected file was sent by two police officers to their private email address. The file contained private information of 134 police officers.

According to the MDR Thuringia, the file was transferred unencrypted via a foreign server and also stored there. It is questionable for what reason the file was sent and what happens with the data.

The incident occurred in January 2019 and the police officers involved were not informed until the end of July.
