Nature of data breach: 100 million records stolen from US bank Capital One
100 million records were stolen from the US bank Capital One in a hacker attack in the USA and 6 million records in Canada. The majority of the data originated from credit card applications and existing credit cards of the bank's customers. Latest findings suggest that the Italian bank Unicredit could also be affected. According to the FBI, the hacker suspected of being responsible has been identified. She herself had reported on the crime in the social media. The reason for the data breach is said to be a misconfigured firewall.
